You Need To Add The Colosseum, The Forum and Palatine Hill To Your Rome Bucket List!

If you go to Rome and don’t visit The Colosseum, did you even visit Rome? I’ve been to Rome twice and both times, The Colosseum has been a highlight! It’s such a cool experience to see something that’s been around for so long. Check out all of my photos to inspire you to visit along with some helpful tips.

There’s so much history and so much to see in Rome that you definitely need more than a few days. I visited The Colosseum the last time I was here because it’s just that epic. Did you know that the Colosseum is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built, and is still the largest standing amphitheatre in the world?

If you book early enough, you can purchase cheap tickets at the official website here. If you book late (like us), there will likely not be any tickets left so you may end up having to book third party tickets which will be more expensive.

We got our tickets through Tiqets and the nice thing about getting your tickets through a third party website is that even though you pay a little more, you sometimes get the convenience of being able to wait in a shorter line to get in.

The Colosseum is so huge and majestic that I definitely recommend you do what we did and walk all around it and take it all in. Hopefully you get lucky like us and find someone to take your photos!

After the Colosseum, I highly recommend that you check out The Forum and Palatine Hill as it is included with your Colosseum ticket. The Forum is a rectangular forum (plaza) surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. It’s really cool to walk around and soak in all the history. The entrance to The Forum is very close to The Colosseum.

The Palatine Hill is a large open-air museum while the Palatine Museum houses many finds from the excavations here and from other ancient Italian sites. It’s also quite a steep hill to climb so be warned.

My friend Geert told me that Palatine Hill is the physical origin of the word palace which I thought was a super fun fact!

I had the best time and cannot wait to return. I hope this post inspired you to visit Rome. Check out The Ultimate Rome Bucket List for more inspiration.
