Lately, I’ve been catching up with the friends I made during the #WITS17 (Women in Travel Summit 2017) in Milwaukee and it’s been making me miss this hidden gem of a city.
This was my first visit to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I honestly had no idea what to expect…except of course beer, cheese and brats. But there is SO MUCH MORE to this city! I’ll have a Wisconsin Bucket List up soon but for now, let’s focus on the Milwaukee Art Museum.
The Milwaukee Art Museum is one of the largest museums in the United States and has over 25,000 works of art. What impressed me the most about this museum is that the building itself is a work of art!
Check out five reasons to visit the Milwaukee Art Museum and let me know if I’ve convinced you to book a flight 😉
#5: THE VIEWS
The Milwaukee Art Museum is located near the Milwaukee Bay so in the middle of admiring all of the art inside the building, you can look out at the beautiful Milwaukee Bay. Or you can also go outside and feel the rush of the wind. I also believe that this is where you can see the best sunrises in the city.
#4: THE ART
The Milwaukee Art Museum boasts over 25,000 pieces of art so you’re bound to find something to admire. While you’re looking at the different collections, you can rest easy because the building itself is a piece of art. Just look at the photo above, that’s a not an official piece of gallery art. That’s just a hallway!
#4: THE LOCATION
Another reason to visit is simply due to the location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There is SO MUCH to do that I discovered on my trip that makes me want to encourage others to visit! From seeing the Bronze Fonz to discovering the architecture to learning about how beer is brewed, there is something for everyone. Stay tuned for the Milwaukee Bucket List coming very soon!
#2: THE YOGA
My absolute favorite part about the Milwaukee Art Museum is all of the different activities they host every month, including yoga! That’s right, they have sunrise yoga and it was so relaxing. I woke up at 5am on Earth Day (so fitting, I know) to see the sunrise and to become one with my body in yoga. Check out their calendar to see what activities are happening this month!
#1 : THE WINGS
The #1 reason to visit the Milwaukee Art Museum is of course the wings. They’re not just your typical wings on a building. When I first saw the wings, I immediately thought of an aircraft…which must be the aerospace engineer in me, but these wings called the Burke Brise Soleil, have a 217-foot wingspan and they are dynamic in nature. The wings open and close at different moments of the day, and take about 3.5 minutes to open or close. They open at 10am when the museum opens and close at 5pm. They will also open or close based on weather. How cool is that?!
Hope you all enjoyed the list; let me know if you have any plans of visiting Wisconsin! Thank you all for reading, and stay enthusiastic!
