You’ve likely heard of Rome, it’s a very popular tourist destination with a ton of history. I’ve been to Rome twice and both times, I wish I had stayed longer as there is so much to do!

Where To Stay
We stayed at EXE International Hotel because we wanted to be close to the train station (12 minute walk) and also be near all of the places we wanted to visit (Colosseum, The Forum, Paletine Hill).
We really enjoyed the breakfast that is included, it was affordable and the location was great!
Food & Drink
One of the best parts of Italy in my opinion is the food, give me all the pizza and pasta! My favorite pasta is bucatini amatriciana so it’s no surprise that my favorite meal was this dish from Matricianella!

Things To Do
CIRCUS MAXIMUS
Circus Maximus is the oldest and largest public space in Rome. This is where chariot races took place and I loved running here because the views were beautiful, the weather was perfect and there were a ton of runners!
COLOSSEUM
One of the most historic (and my favorite) monument in Rome was the Colosseum. Walking past and walking into the Colosseum was an incredible experience. It’s so much bigger in person too! It was so interesting to learn that it is the largest amphitheater ever built and in its prime could hold up to 80,000 people! These 80,000 people would gather for gladiatorial shows and other events like mock sea battles and animal hunts. Check out more of my experience here!
THE FORUM AND PALATINE HILL
After the Colosseum, I highly recommend that you check out The Forum and Palatine Hill as it is included with your Colosseum ticket. The Forum is a rectangular forum (plaza) surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. It’s really cool to walk around and soak in all the history. The entrance to The Forum is very close to The Colosseum. The Palatine Hill is a large open-air museum while the Palatine Museum houses many finds from the excavations here and from other ancient Italian sites. It’s also quite a steep hill to climb so be warned.

PANTHEON
The Pantheon is one of the best-preserved monuments of ancient Rome. The structure, completed around 126-128 A.D. during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, features a rotunda with a massive domed ceiling that was the largest of its kind when it was built.
SISTINE CHAPEL
The Sistine Chapel is your first stop before heading to The Vatican Museums, get ready to do some walking because The Sistine Chapel is huge! Make sure to look up because the ceilings are so intricate. There’s also so much art on the walls.

TRASTEVERE NEIGHBORHOOD
You definitely have to explore Trastevere, a really famous neighborhood in Rome. There’s so many alleys, restaurants and places to grab a drink.
TREVI FOUNTAIN
Another must do bucket list item is to visit the famous Trevi Fountain! Not only is it beautiful but rumor has it you can throw a coin in and make a wish! I’d recommend going early in the morning or late at night as it gets very busy.
THE VATICAN MUSEUMS
The Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican also known as St. Peter’s Basilica was breathtaking. I loved how it looks on the outside but the inside blew me away. You absolutely need to add The Vatican Museums to your bucket list. It seriously felt like I was on another planet, it was such a unique place and I’ve never felt so spiritual. WALK AROUND AND ENJOY THE ARCHITECTURE
Last but not least, what is a vacation in Rome without walking around and getting a little lost. Rome is a very walkable city and it’s a beautiful place to walk around and take in all of the architecture.
