The Ultimate Guatape Bucket List!

When I visited Colombia for the first time, I absolutely fell in love with Guatape, a town Northeast of Medellin. The best part is that a bus ticket to Guatape from Medellin is only about $5 USD one way! Guatape is known as Colombia’s most colorful town. One thing I wasn’t expecting was the drastic difference in climate between the cities in Colombia. Bogota was cool and rainy, Cartagena was super hot and humid, and Medellin/Guatape was breezy and a little humid. Out of all the places we visited in Colombia, I have officially decided to retire in Guatape and do you blame me!? Check out The Ultimate Guatape Bucket List and let me know if you’re inspired to visit!

Explore Guatape

Guatape is the most colorful town in Colombia and for good reason. All of the houses and shops are so bright and bold! I highly recommend that you spend time exploring beautiful Guatape.

Visit the Rock of Guatape (Le Piedra o El Peñol)

What I loved the most about Guatape were the views offered by climbing the Rock of Guatape (La Piedra or El Peñol). To get these views, you have to climb 740 steps but it’s so worth it! The views offered by climbing were spectacular.

Enjoy amazing food at La Fogata

While in Colombia you definitely have to try their national dish: bandeja paisa especially when you are near Medellin as it comes from that region! It includes beef, ground meat, chicharrón (fried pork belly or rind), chorizo, black beans, rice, fried egg, plantains, arepas, hogao and avocado. It was so delicious at La Fogata restaurant.

We also tried grilled chicken, baked potato and an arepa.

I also tried a coconut drink and it was so refreshing!

Eat a cinnamon roll at Zocarolls

Zocarolls in Guatape is famous for their cinamon rolls so I highly encourage you check them out. They’re made fresh and are so tasty!

I had a delicious orange/mango drink and it was so refreshing.

We tried the original cinnamon roll and then one with strawberries. Both were excellent!

I had the best time in Guatape and cannot wait to return. I hope this post inspires you visit.
